The clock in the break room slowly ticked as Toby waited for his shift at Petsmarts to begain as he was working from one to closing time which meant he got to help lock the store. Drumming his fingers at the edge of the plastic table, his gaze shifted about the small break room where he spotted a few employees who were around the water cooler, as they chatted mindless about their lives. Not only that, but the coffee maker was still half full from this morning which was a waste of perfectly goof coffee, but he kept his mouth shut. He wasn't paying for it so he had no room to complain about coffee going to waste. Just as if it felt his shift would never start, the clock finally struck one and he removed himself from the light brown chair which seemed to creak as his weight was removed which caused a few glances his way, but he opted to ignore them.
Leaving the break room, he clocked himself in as he started another day at work. As much as he loved the animals, he often had rude or ignorant customers who refused to listen to a word he spoke. Of course, some days were better, then others and he hoped for today to at least be some what decent filled with at least some what intelligent beings who wouldn't argue with him on animal knowledge. Heading over to the small pet section, he started his rounds of feeding and giving water to the small little creatures who scurried about their cages. Of course, the hamster and gerbils tended to ignore him, but the guinea pigs and rabbits always seemed to want to nuzzle his hand when trying to feed them. While the ferrets tried to escape their cage like the clever little bandits they were.
Finished with that task, he was soon whisked away when a customer asked him a question about cat food which he gave a friendly smile even though it seemed quite out of place on his face as he led the women over to the cat food where the two started to talk. Luckily, she seemed to be in an agreeing mood or perhaps she actually thought he was intelligent, because she went with his recommendation of cat food. It was sort of nice to know that not everyone thought he was an idiot just, because he worked in Petsmarts. Noticing the cat food section was a bit on the messy side, he started to sort it out.

Cecil entered the pet shop calmly, and looked around. In one hand she was carrying a cat carrier, with her new cat Crescent inside. The poor black and white cat was covered in bandages, and had a cone on her neck to keep her from worsening her injuries. The people at the animal clinic had kindly pointed her the Petsmart, and Cecile had figured she might as well buy the cat supplies now. The list she had gotten said she needed a cat bed, litter box, one of those scratching things, toys, food and water bowl, and of course food. She headed towards what looked like the cat food section, and looked at the different supplies with frown. She had no idea what to get, why did there need to be so many different brands?
Sighing in frustration she leaned closer to one of the bags, and began reading what it said. Was this a good one? She looked at the prize and winced, it was much too expensive for her. She shot a look at the store employee that was sorting the different cat food right by her. It grated on her pride to ask for help, but she was woefully lost right now. Crescent was already malnourished since she had been a stray, and she had been told that Crescent needed to gain some weight at the clinic. So a good food brand was important at least, but she couldn't afford to buy the most expensive ones which she assumed were the best.
Swallowing down her pride she turned towards the employee. "I need some help. I have no idea what kind of food to get her." She said desperately, and gestured towards the cat carrier in her left hand with her right. It was no time for pride, she had no idea what to do and she would probably need help with buying all the other things too. The employee was a young dark haired man, and she hoped he would be knowledgeable about animals. "And everything else too really." She admitted in defeat.
A desparate vocie reached his ears asking for assistance, placing the last bag of food down he spun around on his heels to face the customer to find a female around his age or at least a year younger. Brunette hair with dark olive eyes or perhaps hazel? He wasn't quite sure on the color name, but they were some sort of green. Clearing his throat, he gave a small smile as he slowly leaned down onto his knees to take a peek at the cat in the carrier only to be met with the poor creature. He wouldn't be surprised if the cat was in a sour mood, and could tell it was a bit on the underweight side along with injured. Pulling himself onto his feet once he had evaluated the situation before walking as he spoke.
"Canned Wellness might be the best choice as canned food tends to put more weight on felines, and there has been studies that can is better, then kibble." He explained before stopping and picking up a few cans before handing them over to the female. He was happy to help out after all, he could tell she had jumped into owning a cat without even doing the research or at least it looked to be so. "Not only that, but its pretty cheap compared to the other brands. I'm sure the vet told you how much to feed, and the internet can help as well." He informed, the smile that was on his lips when viewing the cat disappeared into one that was more of one that showed he was deep in thought. A minutes had passed before he spoke up once again.
"Next, we'll get the litter, and litter box. Once he or she gets better, cats are pretty easy to take care of. Most of the time, they have an independent personality." Giving a nod, he started to walk off as he motioned for her to follow him.
"So what his or her name?" He asked as he was curious on what she had named the cat or more towards what the shelter called her or him. Not only that, but he typically didn't talk to customer unless he had too or they had a cute pet. This case was different... Well, it seemed to be different.

After Cecile asked for help, the young man leaned down to take a look at Crescent before he rose up again and started talking. She listened raptly , and clumsily tried to hold the cans with one hand. Clutching them to her chest she tried to look like she hadn't just been seconds away from dropping them. She carefully sat down the cat carrier, and tried to get a better grip on the cans. She hummed in understanding as the man continued to explain to her. "Sounds great. I really want to get her good food, but I don't have much money." She explained sheepishly, her grandfather had told her that if she wanted to keep Crescent then she would have to pay for her herself.
"Sounds good. It was kind of an impulse action to adopt her, so I haven't really prepared anything." She said, and made to pick up the car carrier again only to lose most of the cans. Cecile grimaced as they crashed into the floor, and gave the man a sheepish smile. Sometimes she wondered how she was going to survive as a hunter, when she was this clumsy. "Sorry about that, do you mind if I put everything on the counter?" Not to mention she was getting a bit tired, she still wan't completely healed. And that fight had made her ribs ache again.
"Ah, her name's Crescent. Wasn't my idea though, a friend of mine named her." she told him, and gave Crescent a fond look. She really had been lucky that evening, not only had she gained a pet but also a new friend. "The name's Cecile by the way, even though you didn't ask." She teased him, and snickered. He was obviously more interested in animals than humans, so she didn't take offense. Cecile herself wasn't that interested in animals, though she remembers wanting a dog when she was younger.
Admitting to the quick adoption, and how she got the cat in the heat of the moment didn't surprise Toby. He had seen many customer do the same thing, but he had to pretend it didn't brother him, even though he would have loved to give the owners a quick scolding, but for some reason he felt the girl was a bit better off. At least she was trying to learn, and not try to take the cheap way out.
Turning when he heard the sound of cans crashing to the ground, he cringed lightly as he went back to the 'abandon customer' to which she gestured towards the counter while asking a question about dropping the cans off there. Nodding, he replied back simply after all, it would be hard for her to carry everything. "Yeah, we'll probably make a few trips back." He admitted after all, it wasn't cheap when it came to getting cat stuff, but he could at least take some of the amount off her shoulder with their sale items and such. Not only that, but due to her young age he felt she was probably working a part time job which meant cash was tight so he might throw in his employee discount as well... Of course, it was only for the poor creature who had an inexperience owner at hand, he told himself more or less in his head.
Cresent, the cat's name was given and he sort of liked it after all, most owners ended up naming their cats Bella or Blackie which seemed to be too common. Not only that, but he was given the owners name as in a jeering manner which he shook his head at before pointing towards his name tag which declared him as 'Toby'.
"I tend to forget my name and so they gave me this super cool name tag." He made a small joke as he could see his manager a few feet away which meant he should probably keep up a good act.

Thanking him, Cecil made her way to the counter and set down the cans of food there. This really wasn't going to be cheap, and she would probably need to get herself a part time job soon. She knew her grandfather could get her a job at Salt and Silver bar, so she could try and ask him later. This was going to hurt her wallet badly. "Thanks, yeah I figured. It's expensive have pets, because they need a lot of things." She commented with a resigned smile. This hadn't been her best idea, but she hadn't had the heart to just drop the poor feline at the clinic and walk away. Even she knew that animals that didn't get adopted would be euthanized. The vet bill hadn't been anything to sneeze at either.
"I really need to find myself a part-time job..." She muttered as she eyed the small list of things she would need that she had gotten from the vet. Oh well, she would cross that road when she came to it. She tried to fight back an embarrassed blush as Toby pointed to his name tag, somehow she'd completely missed that. How embarrassing! 'Alright, play it cool don't let him realize you didn't notice his name tag', she thought quickly.
At his joke Cecile let out a laugh, and smiled widely her embarrassment forgotten. "It's good you have the name tag then, Should I be worried though, after all how reliable is a guy who can't remember his own name?" She joked back, before remembering she was her to get stuff for Crescent. The poor cat was probably really uncomfortable in the small cat carrier When a thought struck her.. "Do you think I need a cat-flap?" She asked, though she didn't think it was necessary but it was better to ask for safeties sake.
"Well, it will be worth it." He added in after all, he knew pets were expensive, but oftentimes they were quite enjoyable... More so, then some people which reminded Toby that he should drop by the shelter and figure out if he could adopt even with going to college. Maybe work out a budget or something as his apartment was getting quite lonely plus it would be nice to have a running buddy. Snapping himself out of his thoughts he shook his head at when he heard the girl didn't have a part-time job.
"They're hard to find, trust me... If you know someone who has connections, then I would try to get a job there. It took me a couple of years to score this job." He informed the female after all, people wanted employees to have experience, but to get experience you had to get a job and once again it went back to experience. It was an endless circle until finally stopped the chain feeling it would be worth taking in a newbie.
"Don't worry I have a cheat sheet." Toby joked back as he patted his pocket to show where he kept his phone after all, he doubted the girl would try to snatch it as she didn't seem to be that kind of person. Turning around once more, he started to walk towards the cat litter as he was asked another question.
"Depends on if you want her to go outside. If she isn't spayed, then I would say no, but if she is well, then it's up to you. I know some people complain their cats hang out outside too much, but other cat sort of find a balance almost. Of course, this means raccoons can get into your place as well." He loaded all his information down on the girl as he stopped once reaching the litter and litter box isle.

Cecile let out a noise of agreement, it really was worth it. It would be nice to have some companionship now that she was living with her grandfather. Not that she didn't love him, but his health was failing, and he didn't really have the energy to keep up with her. Not that it stopped the old man from worrying, he had even made Chris, a local hunter, watch out for her.
"Yeah, I kinda figured that. Luckily my grandfather will probably help me there. He has some contacts, and if not he could just stare them into submission." She snorted loudly, and grinned. Gramps really was terrifying, and she could totally see him make some poor sod hire her just by staring at them in derision. He's probably be glad she was finally taking some 'responsibility' as he so often talked about. It was kind of disconcerting actually to have someone around all the time, who made sure she did what she should. It hadn't been unusual for her parents to leave for a week or longer for a hunt, and leave her alone in their current (shitty) apartment.
She laughed at his joked, and winked at him. "Well, I guess I was needlessly worried then." She sniggered, before continuing thoughtlessly. "I was a bit worried that you were a total idiot." She started following him, and she scanned the store for their possible goal. She could see they were heading towards the isle with litter-boxes and such, and assumed that was what they were going to buy now.
"Guess not then. It's probably better if I just open the door for her whenever she wants out, I don't want raccoons in the house." She said and wrinkled her nose. She had a dislike for raccoons, those critters had made her jump in fright more than one time when out patrolling late at night.
"Well, then you're probably setup for a somewhat decent job at least." Toby comment after all, most kids in High School ended up working at the local fast food restaurants which weren't bad at first, but he knew several kids who ended up quitting after a while due to reason of boredom and getting sick from the smells. He was luckily to even score the job he had now with no experience... It was sort of his lucky break in a sense, but then again he knew a lot of information about their products and could give out reliable information. Not only that, but he felt odd when she mentioned her Grandfather had several contacts as well, but he shoved those feelings down after all, normal people could have contacts.
"I'm not a total idiot.... I know how to work google pretty well and I know Wiki is a terrible place for information. It's actually the reason that I failed all my projects one year in High School." He declared as a grin warmed its way on his face as he picked up a small bag of kitty litter. Luckily it was cheap, but a lot of good reviews had been going on their site about it along with others. Apparently the whole company wanted to make good stuff for cheap for pet owners. "Here is some pretty good kitty litter. It's been getting a lot of good reviews lately so yeah." He announced as he patted one of the bags. After he spoke up, he watched her wrinkle her nose as she spoke of letting the cat out when she wanted.
"Hmm they don't call them bandits for nothing either." He added in as well after all, they were known to take a few things as well when inside a home.

"Yeah, at least there's that." Cecile agreed and pushed a stray lock of hair out of her face. Though she'd probably just end up working at Salt and Silver Bar, though it seemed like it'd be an okay job as she'd get to talk with other hunters. She wasn't really sure what to do after she finished high school, she knew her parents expected her to continue hunting with them, but she wasn't sure. Not that she'd ever give up on hunting, but the nomadic lifestyle of her parents didn't really fit her. At least gramps had offered her a place to stay if she wanted to study at the local college.
She laughed as he told her he wasn't a total idiot. "Being able to use google doesn't prove anything, anyone can do that. Thanks for the heads up though, now I know what not to do when working on a school project." She joked back, and accepted the bag of kitty litter. Oh joy, she had almost forgotten about one of the less fun parts of having a pet. Though it couldn't be worse than cleaning out bloodstains and guts off of your clothing. "That sounds good, I'll get this brand then." She said, and looked relieved when she saw that it was cheap.
"Understatement of the year, not to mention the times they've scared the living crap out of me at night." She snorted. Not to mention the fact that trash cans makes a lot of noise when falling, so just that could attract attention form things she'd rather not discover her.
