Freezing temperatures, and a virus spreading around work didn't seem wonderful in the eyes of Toby who needed to attend work in order to pay for things such as rent and food. If he could, he wouldn't have even went into work if he had known that he would become sick with whatever that had been floating around. Waking early in the morning, he felt a bit queasy, but luckily he didn't have work and so he stayed in bed knowing it would pass over. As noon rolled around, he was a tad on the warm side, and queasy stomach he had earlier hadn't gone away which cause a panic in his mind, but he soon settled himself down trying to believe it was all in his head... Going back to bed, he didn't wake up until midnight when he felt sweat coming down from his forehead, and the queasy feeling turned into something else he didn't recognize. Getting out of bed, he headed towards the bathroom where he took his temperature by ear. Hearing the beep, he pulled out the thermometer and read his temperature. 101.8°F Muttering out a string of curses, he tossed the stink into the sink as he darted into the kitchen picking up his car keys, wallet, and a coat as he was going to make a trip to the Hospital. Not feeling pain right now was a huge disadvantage as he wasn't sure what he had. Maybe he the Flu or maybe it an infection, but whatever it was he needed to see a doctor. Putting his shoes on, he left his apartment slamming the door on his way out not caring if anyone woke up from the slam. The only thing that was on his mind was getting to the ER and getting checked out. Until then, his mind would be in panic mode as he didn't know what was wrong with himself. Exiting the complex, the winter breeze felt nice against his warm forehead, and he opted for taking his coat off as he tried to cool himself down a bit before entering his car. Once feeling a bit better, he hoped into the car and drove to the hospital. Luckily, no one was out and so it didn't take long before he pulled in the ER's parking lot which only had a couple of other cars. Getting himself out, he grabbed his jacket before heading into the facility only to find out it was just as warm as inside his own apartment. Groaning, he headed to the front desk, and got the paper work. Taking a seat away from the people that were scattered about the room, he started to fill out the paper work as good as he could after all, how could he tell them where he hurt if he couldn't feel it?

Aviana woke up and started getting ready for work. She had to work the graveyard shift tonight so she had caught up on her sleep during the day so she would have plenty of energy for her shift. As she made herself breakfast she threw a pot of coffee on. She would be drinking allot of coffee tonight she always did during the graveyard shift.

Once she finished eating she filled a large coffee mug up to the top with fresh coffee than grabbed the keys to her car and headed out the door. She walked over to her nineteen fifty five Ford Thunderbird. She had, had it painted red with blue and purple flames on it. It was her pride and joy next to her horse Fleur. Her parents had given it to her as a gift when it had first come out sixty one years ago. She had taken very good care of it and kept it in top condition.

Once she arrived at work she parked the car and set the alarm. If someone so much as touched it an alarm would go off. The alarm was the loudest one she could buy and also sent a message to her phone telling her it had gone off so it was nice.

Work started at eight o'clock and things went by like normal for Salem. There where a few people who came and went but it was mostly quiet. Around ten the ambulance brought five people in that had been in a car wreck. A mother and her five year old daughter had been in one car and three teenagers coming home from a party had been in the other obviously drunk.

Aviana had only just finished up with them when she had been given her next case. A boy with a fever, she headed for the waiting room and looked down at her chart. "Tobias Thoreau, Tobias Thoreau?"

The paper work was boring, and long, but he managed to fill out the important parts or what he had deemed important before placing the clipboard to the side. Gazing about the room, he noticed quite a few people were coughing, and throwing up which made him cringe inside his head. He wasn’t a fan of being sick or being around those who were, but he didn’t have a choice since it was the middle of the night and he was sure his doctor wouldn’t like a call at this time. Drumming his fingers on his leg, he couldn’t help, but to feel out of place. His face didn’t show any signs of discomfort, and the only sign of sickness was his high fever. Hearing his name, he snapped his head over to the women calling and pulled himself up from his chair as he grabbed the clipboard with the forms. Walking over, he dropped the forms on the desk and went over to said women calling his name. “I prefer to be call Toby.” He informed the nurse, by the looks of her appearance he assumed that she was a nurse instead of a doctor not that it mattered anyway. “Uh I can explain everything once we get into a room.” The wording was awkward which was unlike himself as he tended to be rude and blunt. Yet, when he got sick, he was more worried about what he had caught, if the doctors or nurses would figure it out or if it would lead to his own death. His mind would be plagued with these thoughts until someone confirmed that he was going to be alright. Obviously, he blamed his mother for making him feel this way as every time he got hurt or ran a fever they went to the doctors while she acted like it was the end of the world and was where he got his little phobia. Perhaps if she acted like a normal person when he got sick, then perhaps his mind wouldn’t be plague with thoughts of death every time he got sick.

Aviana smiled sweetly at Tobias when he said he preferred Toby. "Ok Toby it is than, please follow me to your room." Turning around she headed back through the door she had come through. She walked down a hall filled with mostly empty rooms. When she got to room thirteen she stopped and entered it. "Have a seat," walking over to the computer she pulled up Toby's files. "Now what seems to be the problem today Toby? It says here you don't feel pain did you do something that you fear you might have hurt yourself?" She wanted to cover everything the boy didn't look hurt but he did look sick but people normally don't come to the ER just for the flue. They go to their doctors for that so she figured it must be something else.

Getting up from the computer she grabbed the thermometer, "put this in your mouth please." While she took her temperature she grabbed the Blood Pressure Cuff and checked his blood pressure. When she finished with the blood pressure she typed the numbers in the computer. "Your blood pressure is a little high."

Following after the nurse, he was instructed to have a seat and entered the room as he took a seat as his gaze flickered over to the nurse as she was probably pulling up his files. “Yeah, I haven’t been feeling well since this morning… I should have gone to the doctors, but I didn’t and my fever kind of spiked. I don’t feel any pain so I don’t know if it anything small or big.” He explained, a sheepish smile on his face as he hated coming in for every little scratch and cold, but it was hard to tell if the problem was major or minor when he couldn’t feel an ounce of pain. Watching her get up, he took the thermometer from her hand and placed it in his mouth while she took his blood pressure. To no surprise it was high, but he was slightly worried about what he had. Again, he wasn’t normal and so being a worry wart came part of the package. Once the temperature read, he pulled it out nodding. “Yeah, I’m a bit worried so it’s no surprise… I guess the habit of coming in for every little thing wrong is still stuck in my head as my mother used to do it to me all the time.”

Aviana listened to what Tobias said and nodded. "Well it is better to be safe than sorry. Now just to rule anything out have you done anything lately that might have caused you to break any bones or cause internal bleeding? Since you can't feel pain I need to ask you questions just to rule them out." When the thermometer went off she took it and wrote it down. "What was your temperature before you left home? It's at one hundred and two point one right now." Discarding the sleeve on the thermometer she put it back in it's case than in turn picked up each arm and examined them. Neither where broken, next she examined the legs again nothing broke as far as she could tell. "I'm going to go talk to the doctor real quick I'll be right back."

Turning she left the room in search of the doctor on staff. When she found him she suggested sending him up for x-rays to check for any broken bones as we as an imaging test to check for internal bleeding. She got him to sign the papers than returned to the room with a wheelchair. "Ok where going to send you up for some testing just to make sure there isn't anything going on inside your body that is causing your symptoms. I have a feeling it's just the flue but with your condition we need to rule everything out first."

"No, I haven't done anything of that sorts... I did get bite by one of the mice at the pet store I work at though, but that was a week or two ago at least." Toby watched at the thermometer beeped, and his fever was now at a hundred and two point one which was worse, then when he took his temperature back at his place awhile back ago. "Hundred and one degrees point eight." After that, she picked up each arm and leg to check for bones before declaring to go find another doctor and talk to them real quick. Probably to get suggestions on what to do after all, he was sure he had visited this place a few times by himself so someone was bound to know him. Waiting for her return was a bit worrying, but she soon popped in. "Yeah thats fine." Thank god he had good medical insurance or else he could say goodbye to going to college. Pulling himself down from where he sat, he walked over putting himself in the wheelchair.

Aviana frowned hearing his temperature had gone up by three degrees. She bit her lower lip and typed that in real quick as well as the fact that he hadn't done anything to get him hurt other than a mouse bite. Once he was in the wheelchair she grabbed the handles and pushed him out. "Your going to be getting some x-rays, an image test as well as some blood work done. Your insurance should pay for it all so don't worry about that." When they reached the elevator she pressed the up button and waited. When the doors open she wheeled Toby in. "Your not afraid of needles are you?" She smiled teasingly trying to lighten the mood. She pressed the button for the third floor and they began going up. When the doors opened she pushed him out and into a waiting room. "I'll be back I need to go fill out the papers for your tests." She handed him the remote to the tv and than left the room.

"Very afarid, I mean I may have had a lot of needles, but I'm still not over them." He joked back, giving a light shake of his head before the doors to the elevator opened up where she wheeled him over to a small waiting room as she went to go fill out some paper work, but not without leaving him with the remote. Changing the channel, and surfing threw, he soon found Animal planet which just so happened to be on Yellow Stone wolves. He hadn't seen it before, and made a mental note to remember the name of the documentary so he could find it later on. Shifting a bit in the wheelchair, he leaned his head forward a bit as he lost himself in the documentary as they followed the wolves. Their goal was to show pack life, and to follow the pack for a couple of years, but to his surprise it was only suppose to be two or three hours long from the sounds of it.

Aviana laughed softly when he joked about being afraid of needles. Leaving him in the waiting room she walked to the office where she had to sign in her patient and fill out the papers for the needed tests. It took her several minutes to fill them out but once she was finished she gave the office staff them. She headed back to Toby, walking into the room she smiled at him. "Blood work first, lets go." Grabbing the wheelchair she headed out of the room. "Where you watching anything interesting?" She asked as they walked down the hall to the room where they drew blood at. Entering another nurse came up and smiled at him and set to work drawing his blood.

Thinking she should try and distract him encase he really was scared of needles she decided to ask him a couple questions. "So Toby what do you do, do you said you where bitten by a mouse at work what is your job?" She wondered if he worked as a vet assistant or something since he obviously worked with animals.

"Not the needles." Another joke was made towards him being afraid of needles before he was asked about what he was watching. "Documentary on wolves... It seemed interesting." Entering the room where they drew blood, another nurse entered the picture and did what she was supposed to with a friendly smile perked on her face. It was weird how being sick changed people, normally he was rude and blunt, but when it came to doctors and nurses he held some sort of respect... It was odd, but it was just how his mind worked. "Oh I work at the local Petsmarts... Its not the best job, but I wanted to get out of my parent's house as soon as possible and so I took it." He chatted lightly after all, leaving his parent's house had been his goal ever since he hit middle school. "I'm hoping to do something a bit more and get into college."

Aviana smiled liking the kid more and more. Yea he wasn't really a kid any more but he was over a hundred years younger than her and to her all humans where kids really. She tried not to get to attached to humans because you blink and their gone really. "Well that does sound interesting you like wolves I take it." She watched the nurse draw four tubes of blood before finishing up and putting on a band-aid. "Petsmart huh, I've been thinking of getting a dog what breeds do you guys have right now?" She asked as she wheeled him out of the room and headed to the next room where he would get the x-rays done. "Well a job is certainly one way to get out of your parents house and save up for college. What do you want to go to college for?"

When they reached the next room she stopped outside. "I'm not allowed in there with you another nurse will take you in to get your x-rays." As she spoke a guy walked up and took her place and pushed the wheelchair into the room to get his x-rays done.

"Yeah, I'm kind of a fan of these two dog breeds who act quite wolfish." Toby admitted as the nursed finished up drawing the blood. He had to admit the nurse was pretty cool as most of the time they normally didn't talk or when they did, it was always about his conditions which got pretty annoying at times. As she was about to wheel him away, she asked about dog breeds they currently had. "Right now we have Yorkshire Terrier, and Pomeranian... We only carry the small breeds as they tend to sell faster, but if you come by next weekend, the shelter comes by with about ten of their dogs that are open for adoption." He explained after all, small dogs were quite loud when it came to barking. He would admit it annoyed him at times, but it was hard to stay mad at their dorky little faces. "Two year zoology degree with a focus on animal behavior." He spoke as he already had in mind of what course he wanted to take. As they approached the other room, she announced she couldn't go in, but another nurse or doctor took him to get the x-ray done. During the x-ray he remained silent which was odd as he was used to chatting with the nurse from before. After awhile the whole process got finished up, and he was soon wheeled out from the room. "If you need to know, I prefer bad news then good news." A light grin came on his face as he spoke after all, he had a feeling he was fine.

Aviana smiled as Toby told her he was a fan of the wolfhound breeds. But before she could ask him why he liked them he was wheeled away from her shortly after telling her what they had right now. She had been thinking of adopting a dog but she wanted a big breed something that could keep up with Fleur and run along side her as she rode Fleur.

As she waited for Tobias she began thinking about what breed she would like to get if she could get it. By the time Toby returned she had settled on three breeds. A German Shepherd, A Great Dane or a Dalmatian. She had always loved the spotted breed and would love to get one again someday. She had, had one years ago when she was going to college but it had died almost a hundred years ago.

Finally Aviana spotted Toby being wheeled out and she smiled at him. She nodded to Mark and took his place pushing Toby. "So how come you like those two breeds over all the other dog breeds? Is there something special about them?" She asked as she wheeled him to the next room where she would perform an image test. As they entered the room there was a single doctors bed in the center of the room with a stool beside it. "Can you get on that please Toby?" The person who usually did this test wasn't in right now but she had been trained in how to use it.

"Both breeds a wolfdog hybrids, and had different purpose for being create. The Saarloos was supposed to be a working breed, but turned out to be quite the cautious, and reserved type dog which lacked the ferocity to attack. While the Czechoslovakian was successful in becoming a good working breed as it has the character of a German shepherd, but the physical built of the Carpathian wolf." He explained when he got out from the x-ray room, and she wheeled him off into another part of the hospital. They were doing an image test it seemed as they entered the room, and he got up from the wheelchair to go sit on the stool. "So, I take it you're looking for a dog, then?" Toby asked after all, people didn't bring up about what kind of dogs they had without wanting to get one. He was rather curious on what breeds she wanted to get after all, he didn't take her for the small purse size dogs. Perhaps a Labrador sort of person or even a border collie if he was going by Aviana's looks alone. As he waited for her to do her thing, he tried to stay still as he had done with the x-ray as he kept his gaze in front of him. He wasn't sure if he was allowed to talk during the procedure and opted to keep his mouth closed for the time being.
